Right

I think it is time for the grown-ups to step in.

I never liked it when that time came in my former career.  Whether it was people I supervised or those that supervised me, it was always a very stressful, difficult challenge to tell grown-ups, in a grown-up way, that they need to start acting like grown-ups.

No matter your position in the organization, the resources made available to you are not yours, they belong to the organization, business, institution or government agency you work for. Your job is to manage the “company” resources and use them according to procedures and guidelines.  This kind of policy probably sounds very familiar to you, or should, if you’ve ever worked for an organization of any size.  The resources made available to you as part of your job may be considerable, but you understand they are not yours. Right?  They belong to the company, organization, institution, shareholders and/or public depending upon where you work.  Right? 

The resources made available to the President of the United States of America are vast, but they don’t belong to the President, right?  The White House, The Kennedy Center, Air Force One, big high value assets belong to us. Right?  The President gets to use them and safeguard them on our behalf. Right?

The desktop or laptop computer, network, servers, phones at your place of employment are not yours to keep, nor yours to use as you see fit.  They too are resources made available to you to do your job.  If you use them inappropriately, there are consequences.  You know you can’t circulate inappropriate memes, pictures or offensive statements on company assets. Right?

If this is something you must tell your boss, I feel for you. He or she should know this. If you or one of “your people” in the organization did this, you’d expect to be fired.  When you go to tell your boss that they can’t do this sort of tasteless, unprofessional, mean-spirited, racist, sexist, homophobic, ugly stuff anymore because it an inappropriate use of organizational resources, it might be you who gets fired.  But you must do it anyway. You must be the grown-up. Right?

I am running for office in Iowa House District 11 to add my voice to those calling for our President and his followers to join us and behave like grown-ups.  We all want to Stop the Fussing and start Fixing Iowa.  Right?
